Any self respecting metalhead will acknowledge the role Metallica’s music has played in edging him/her forward towards exploring ‘heavier’ music.Even after going through the most obscure of bands and metal sub genres a metalhead still finds time to rattle his neck off to “Master of Puppets” or sway to the sheer awesomness of “Fade to Black”. I could go on for hours as to why Metallica pwns, but considering that this is a “Bands oughta retire ” post, I think I should stop here
No denying that Metallica left an indelible mark on music, they’d make a better impression if they just called the quits after the disaster of an album “Saint Anger”. Nobody can escape old age and thrash isnt something a bunch of pissed off daddies can pull off. After watching some of their recent concerts and experiencing classics like “one” getting butt raped by the VERY band that created them, I was nothing short of horror struck . To be honest , I actually liked “Death magnetic” for a few days. But after close introspection and 25 different listens, the sheer suckage that was packed in the album got to me.
If a 40 plus urban dad on the mike wasn’t creepy enough, the recycled riffs and time signatures made the album more repulsive to my ears, for example, “The day that never comes” was a poor attempt at recreting “Fade to black”. I feel that the album was a feeble attempt at recreating the whole “pissed off teenager who hates just about everything” image that lead them to where they are today. Overall, the only parameters that make me remember the album are repetitive riffs, grumpy vocals, TIRED drumming and solos that are capable of cracking glass.
All I want to say is, they’ve had your day, they’ve immortalized themselves, they’ve made a fan out of millions and have pioneered thrash, but I think I’d like it better if they just retired and live off the legacy they created.

my sentiments exactly
although they could chenge their genre and play something more “their age” and still contribute to music. but i feel they are too old to do even that.
Well they hav made their mark on history and no ones gonna argue wid dat
even if new younger members join to keep da name of da band alive i dont think they will b able 2 pull it off
Well it is easy for us to expect “them” to change and what not. But try to understand their position, in their prime they were really few genres and lesser competition. But now with the zillions of bands, genres, styles, gray hairs and competition they are forced to let go off artistic rights and let some one else who knows the “market” and “in thing” do the job.
As far as I have noticed, every “legendary” band that there is has suffered due to age and trends. Dream Theater, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Robert Plant (HE WAS SINGING COUNTRY), Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and even the Backstreet Boys XD
So give the old timers a break because they have given us the best of music and are still trying. Though I hope they hang their boots soon.
^^ true but if thers one band that hasnt changed its music at all over the years…its maiden …metallica shud take a lesson
